Mississippi and Missouri Aim to Boost Bitcoin Mining with New Legislation

• Two U.S. states, Mississippi and Missouri, have proposed new bills to protect and encourage Bitcoin (BTC) mining operations and node operators.
• The bills are being reviewed by the Houses and Senates of the two states and are sponsored by Sen. Josh Harkins, Rep. Jody Steverson and Rep. Phil Christofanelli.
• The proposed legislation seeks to protect miners in the states from discriminatory energy rates and political subdivisions trying to set a different set of rules concerning zoning.

Lawmakers from two U.S. states, Mississippi and Missouri, have taken steps to capitalize on the emergence of blockchain technology by introducing new bills to legally protect their residents’ right to mine Bitcoin (BTC) and operate nodes. The bills, which are currently being reviewed by the Houses and Senates of the two states, are sponsored by Sen. Josh Harkins, Rep. Jody Steverson and Rep. Phil Christofanelli. The structure of both bills was inspired by the non-profit Bitcoin mining advocacy organization, Satoshi Action Fund, and they specifically state that it is completely legal to own and operate mining nodes both in private residences and at an industrial scale.

The proposed legislation seeks to protect miners in the states from discriminatory energy rates and political subdivisions trying to set a different set of rules concerning zoning. It also aims to prevent local authorities from imposing restrictions that are not applicable to other data centers in the area. Dennis Porter, CEO and founder of the Satoshi Action Fund, has encouraged residents of the two states to seize the opportunity to become active participants in the “Bitcoin boom”. He believes that facilities such as these can be beneficial to rural areas, as they often create jobs and bring in much needed revenue.

The legislation, if passed, would provide a safe and secure environment for Bitcoin miners in the two states, while also giving them the legal protection they need to operate without fear of repercussions. This could potentially be a major step forward for the cryptocurrency industry, as it would give miners in Mississippi and Missouri the confidence to pursue their mining operations without fear of any legal repercussions. With the bills being reviewed by the Houses and Senates of the two states, the future of Bitcoin mining in Mississippi and Missouri looks very promising.
